Holidays in Gran Canaria

Gran Canaria will have 12 public holidays this year, including national and provincial holidays.

It is important to remember that on these days the timetables of shopping centres areas as well as the public administrations can be modified.

In general, the working calendar of Gran Canaria consists of a total of 14 public holidays, eight of which are state holidays, i.e. they will be common to the rest of the communities of Spain, corresponding to the calendar of the General Directorate of Labour, and four regional holidays, which are dictated by the governments of each Autonomous Community and can therefore be different in each one of them.

With regard to the four regional days, the holiday on 1 November has been replaced, as this year it is a Sunday, to add 30 May, Canary Islands Day holiday, to the calendar. At the same time, the holiday of 25th July (St. James the Apostle) will also be changed so that each island will set the traditional holiday for each of them, in Gran Canaria, it will be 8th September.

It should be noted that each municipality on the island will also set two days as local holidays, which will also count as public holidays in the respective work calendars of each municipality.  You should take these dates into account as both shopping areas, restaurants, etc. and public offices may be subject to changes in their opening hours and may even close on that day.

Therefore, according to the application of state legislation, the following days will be public holidays on the island of Gran Canaria:
