In Gran Canaria, which belongs to the Spanish state and therefore to the European Union, the Euro is used. You will have no problem changing currency if you come from a region outside the European Union where the Euro is not used. At Gran Canaria Airport, you can find some currency exchange establishments with no commission.

Time difference: In the Canary Islands there is a one hour time difference from the rest of Spain (One hour less in the Canary Islands). Don't forget to change your watch time when you visit Gran Canaria!

Language: The official language in Gran Canaria is the same as in the rest of Spain: Spanish. Although it is also true that, as in all regions of the country, the Canary Islands have their own words and expressions inherited from the Guanches and the South American influence on the islands. Words like Guagua, Playeras, Gofio or Enyesque are a faithful reflection of these Canarianisms.
