Guayadeque Ravine

The ravines in the Canary Islands are, undoubtedly, the main feature of the landscape of the islands due to their volcanic nature and subtropical climate. To go down into a ravine is to discover a new world: new experiences, new landscapes, new sensations, new emotions and new fauna and flora is a unique experience that you shouldn't miss.

This large ravine which is about 15 kilometres long, is located in the south-east of the island, between the towns of Ingenio and Agüimes, where the Guanche and aboriginal culture of the island is quite deep-rooted. Here you will find the Interpretation Centre where you can find out about the archaeology that surrounds the area and the particular features that this point of interest has to offer. Opening from 09:00h to 17:00h from Tuesdays to Sundays, hundreds of visitors come to this place to immerse themselves in the Canarian culture.

Distinguished by its environmental and, above all, patrimonial values, it was awarded the distinctions of Natural Monument by the Law of Natural Spaces of the Canary Islands and Archaeological Bien de Interés Cultural by the Law of Historical Patrimony of the Canary Islands.      

These well-deserved awards are given not only because of the wonderful landscape that you discover when you visit, but mainly for the number of Natural Caves that make up this site. Many of these caves have also developed into the homes of many Canarian people and restaurants with incredibly tasty and varied cuisine, making Guayadeque one of the most recognisable places for locals to enjoy a good meal with the family.

This place with its large steep slopes full of native Canarian vegetation does not leave any of its visitors indifferent. You can also visit this place by hiking on one of the many routes that are organized! 

Finally, it is worth mentioning that there is a picnic area with wooden tables and a barbecue area where open-air meetings are held, especially at weekends.
