Maspalomas International Carnival
Maspalomas Carnival and Parade
The Canary Islands are a land of contrasts and traditions but above all of influences from all the visitors who every year decide to come to the archipelago on holiday or to live. All this influence can be clearly seen in the south of Gran Canaria: varied gastronomy, Canarian fusions with other countries, people of different cultures and nationalities.
All this development has made Gran Canaria one of the favourite destinations for holidays or long stays here. In the south of the island we have multiple entertainment areas and festivals throughout the year, as well as the culmination of Canarian culture: The Carnival.
For the Canarians Carnival is not just another party: it is a way of life. The groups prepare themselves a year in advance to have everything perfect in the carnival season. And this is not only a custom among the older ones, since children there are already "murgueros" and "comparsistas" who live these celebrations with illusion and emotion.
This year 2025 the most important Carnival of the island is getting ready!
The Maspalomas Carnival had already chosen its theme months ago in September last year. All residents of Maspalomas were encouraged to vote on the Maspalomas website for a theme until finally the theme ‘Amor a la Mejicana’ (Mexican Love) won with a total of 43,9% of the votes.
This new theme promises to fill the streets of Maspalomas with the vibrant colours, music and traditions of Mexican culture. The official carnival poster, entitled ‘Un mismo destino mejicano’, is the work of the Gran Canarian artist Óscar Quintana. The work reflects the cultural fusion between Mexico and the Canary Islands, incorporating emblematic elements from both regions.
During these days, Maspalomas will be transformed into a festive stage that will evoke the essence of Mexico, giving the colourful country the tribute it deserves, offering residents and visitors a unique experience full of joy and tradition.
The Carnival will be held between March 18 and 30; and although the schedule for this much-anticipated festivities is not yet available, there is no doubt that it will be a celebration to remember.
In addition, it is certain that the Grand Carnival Parade will be held on Saturday 29th March in order to start the weekend with joy and festivities that will haunt us throughout the week.
