Fundamentally situated in the province of Granada we find the impressive mountainous massif of Sierra Nevada, extending in its most eastern part to the province of Almeria. It rises in the eastern part of the south of the Iberian Peninsula within the Betic mountain ranges in the Penibetic system. It constitutes not only the highest altitude of Andalusia but also of the Iberian Peninsula being the highest mountainous massif, after the Alps, of Western Europe.

The Mulhacén and the Veleta are its peaks that reach their maximum altitudes: 3482 and 3393 meters respectively. Biosphere Reserve and National Park with more than 60 endemic botanical species among which the Estrella de las Nieves stands out. It has an extension of 169,239 hectares protected between the National Park and the Natural Park. From their different faces a great quantity of rivers are born, emphasizing their north face. Rivers of the Guadalquivir basin, among them the Genil, its main tributary.

From the Veleta to Prado Llano extends the ski resort of Sierra Nevada, the highest in Spain and the southernmost in Europe. The resort has 110.4 kilometres of skiable terrain on 131 pistes with a drop of 1,200 metres. The Sierra Nevada resort offers you a wide range of activities not only in winter but also in summer. It is precisely in summer when the paradise of any hiker is Sierra Nevada. You can also go horse riding in the Sierra Nevada, cycling or enjoy the star shower in Borreguiles. In winter you will find from snowshoeing tours, night skiing, sunset from the Veleta, motorcycles, sleds and snow slides, driving track machines...

How to get there? 

The Sierra Nevada is located 31 kilometers from Granada city, you can choose your own vehicle, bus or taxi.

 

By Bus

Granada - Sierra Nevada Line         

Winter schedule:
            Departure from Granada bus station.

  • From Monday to Friday: 8:00 - 10:00 - 17:00 hours
  • Saturdays, Sundays and holidays: 8:00 - 10:00 - 15:00 - 17:00

           

Sierra Nevada - Granada Line
            Departure from Sierra Nevada (Pradollano).

  • From Monday to Friday: 9:00 - 16:00 - 18:30
  • Saturdays, Sundays and holidays: 9:00 - 13:00 - 16:00 - 18:30

Price of return trip: 9 euros. Price one way: 5 euros.


By car:

The station has four parking areas with 3,907 spaces.
