Teguise

What to see and do in Teguise!

The former capital of Lanzarote and one of the oldest villages on the island, Teguise divides the island of Lanzarote from east to west, so you can discover Costa Teguise and its tourist life or see the Chinijo archipelago and admire La Graciosa. Teguise welcomes thousands of visitors every Sunday who stroll through its streets and shops at the famous traditional market. Here you can delight in the handmade Canarian handicrafts, fabrics and leather, as well as taste the typical gastronomy with its cheeses, mojos and wines; and it is set to the sound of Canarian folklore in the church square. Teguise is also home to the Museum of Piracy, the Castle of Santa Bárbara and the Timple Museum. Don't miss the opportunity to visit the Cactus Garden: an enclave designed by César Manrique where you will find more than 500 different species in a centre that combines nature and art. If you like surfing, don't forget to visit Famara beach or Las Cucharas beach; two ideal spots for surfing.
