Transport in Lanzarote

Transport in Lanzarote

One of the main questions to solve on any trip is how to get around and transport yourself to your destination. Knowing all the possibilities and prices will make you organize your trip in advance and without any unforeseen event. In Lanzarote, due to its insular characteristics it is different from any typical destination. For example, Lanzarote does not have an underground or train and it is very common to take the boat to move to any nearby island. From LCT Europe we will try to solve all your doubts about how to move around Lanzarote with some recommendations:

Is bus a good option to move around Lanzarote?

Surely you have heard about how the Canaries call the bus. The famous "guagua" connects many of the main places of Lanzarote like Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise, Arrecife, Playa Honda or Playa Blanca among many others. The only bus company that operates in Lanzarote is IntercityBus. If you want to see the map of lines, with the destinations you can reach, click here.

In short, the bus is a good option if you only travel between the places where the InterCity company operates during the most common timetables (from 06:00h to 23:00h) with fares starting at approximately €1.40.

Is it practical to take a taxi on Lanzarote?

As the distances on Lanzarote are not too long, it is very unlikely that the journeys will be too expensive. However, if you're on a tight budget, it may not be the best option to take a taxi in Lanzarote, so we recommend you do so for specific times such as from the airport to your hotel or for short journeys.

Car rental, yes or no?

Absolutely yes in Lanzarote. Given the characteristics of the island, the limited service of public transport and the freedom to visit the different places of interest of Lanzarote, renting a car is the best option to move around Lanzarote. But there is some inconvenience if you rent a car: the queues when entering the tourist centres such as Jameos del Agua, Cueva de los Verdes or Timanfaya: The influx of people, especially in certain seasons is quite high, so the only ones authorised to enter the centres directly without queuing are the excursion companies. Therefore, we recommend you to rent a car in Lanzarote, but if you do not want to queue, the best option is to hire an excursion with LCTEurope.
