LAGO VERDE (Green lagoon)

Considered one of the wonders of nature on Lanzarote, Lago Verde, also known as Charco de los Clicos, or the green Lagoon; was so named due to the green color of its waters, provided by phytoplankton, different sulfurs, minerals and the great amount of unique microorganisms that inhabit this place. 

El Charco Verde is located on a black sand beach that together with the green color of the lagoon and the sea create an impressive landscape full of amazing contrasts that leave a picturesque image to photograph on your holidays.Visiting this place is free but we have to take care of it. Green Lake is a protected area so it is strictly forbidden to swim in it or to throw any kind of garbage in its surroundings.

It is everyone's duty to take care of our natural heritage in order to continue enjoying it for many years more.

Next to Lago Verde is a small fishing village called El Golfo where you can stop to rest and have a drink in one of its restaurants with fresh and delicious Canarian dishes; and let yourself be captivated by the flavours of the land in this village on the south coast of Lanzarote. 

Origin of the name Lago Verde

Belonging to Natural Park of Volcanoes and surrounding Timanfaya National Park, Lago Verde is one of those different enclaves that fills the locals with pride because of its peculiar characteristics. It was named Charco de los Clicos thanks to some small shellfish that lived in the surroundings. 

How to get to Lago Verde

To reach this place is very simple: we only have to go to El Golfo, a fishing village in the southwest of Lanzarote; there is also a Mirador (free entrance) from where you can take beautiful photos with a spectacular background.
